MY SALUTES, DEAR MOM :Can one treat death just as a separation from a loved one? Or, does it unite us with the deceased’s soul forever? And what if it were one’s mother whose permanent adieu from this world left one dazed? Memories of one’s mother propel one to live the way she lived, love our children like she loved us and move forward in life with hope and zest. It is for us to imbibe those qualities, even if only partially, that made her an extraordinary human being. The way life takes a sudden turn and ushers in spiritual perspectives and insights can only be experienced, to be understood, even though losing a parent is the most dreaded, yet, not an unexpected event. The intimate camaraderie, genial discussions and showers of care and concern can never be replaced or substantiated by any other person. What made us stand up and go ahead as usual are memories of her giving us wise advice, always spreading joy, never demoralising us even in the worst of circumstances. The undying ethos of her celebrated life full of love, positivity, innocence and faith will always keep us inspiring. By following her ways with the world and ideals, we are also honouring her place in our life. Embracing the same divinity which she unknowingly and quite simply personified is a legacy very few would stand to inherit. Reminiscing the golden childhood moments when she would scold for a poor grade, and then pamper with delicious food and at once hug and play strict, a voice tells us that a mother builds not just a family but also its character, its lively spirit. It is the grandchildren who miss her absence the most, for it is they who received her abundant love, care and attention the most. Surely, the grief may fade with the passage of time.
